Taufiq's Goal- Be a great musician
Hie...My name is Taufiq...I like to share my goal with you...I have always enjoy music since I was at young age. I really have passion in music. I have determination and burning desire to play musical intrument such as drums and guitars. Listen to music not only entertain me but also give me an inspiration to compose my own music and to unleash my own talent. I want to spin drumsticks with my both hands. With this ability, I can gain my confident to show off my talent and ability to entertain my audience. I want to learn different kinds of drumbeats so i can play any song and I can improvise and combine all kinds of technique to create my own drumbeat. I am willing to learn new musical lesson eventhough I need to face many obstacles.
On 19 May 09... I have practice my single stroke for 1 hour. I just realised that my left hand is much weaker then my right hand. Everytime when I stroke the drum...The dynamics is not balanced. The stroking sound produced by my left hand is much softer than my right hand. I also realised that my left hand is not flexible enough to coordinate with my right hand...I need to practice my parradiddles and my single strokes more...I have always make a bad habit that is stroking with my arms moving.. That technique is wrong as there ae no flexibility hapen..The correct technique is to stroke without moving my arms...Only my wrist move..my wrist will give me more ability to control my tempo...This technique also give me more flexibility so that i can easily coordinate my hands with the drumsticks...So I have trained my left hand more than my right hand...HOWEVER...it looks like my left hand still have no improvement yet...I decide to have more practice at home as next week, I will be learning new drum beat...It is called the swing technique...This technique is very difficult as there will be many coordination and flexibility....
On 28 May 09...I have learn to play jazz drum beat....The technique is called swing...I have difficulty in coordinating my left hand with my right hand...My right hand need to be relaxed so I can play and give constant swing tempo with flexibility...Then...I will practice playing and coordinating my both hands...
About swing technique...firstly, I need to losen the hi-hat so that it can produce a swing or 'sss' sound. I must make sure that there is no 'choke' sound produced as the hi-hat is too tight and the sound will be wrong...I need to give a last-minute on the third rhythm such as 1-2-a-3-4....this is the basic...I must semi open the hi-hat on the third stroke so that the 'sss' sound is produced...This can also delay the rhythm and thus make it swing lively...I need to connect the sound produced or link note-by-note so that there wil be slur or tie rhythmic tempo.

My section
This photo above is my percussion section...By joining the Nanyang Poly Symphony Orchesytra...I have learnt that....We are like a family as we depend on eact other in playing our instrument...The most important sense that we always use as a professional musician is our sense of hearing...Today we just learn to improvise any latin and samba drumbeat...The sound produced when filling in should be agressive-effect...To produce that sound...I need to hit the snare drum on its rim...Then I can apply this to any other types of drum such as tom-tom and floor tom..

My Goal- Be a great musician
On 4 June 09, my section play an improvised percussion ensemble song...For this song... we only play the drums and other percussion accessories...In this song...we need our own creativity of playing our very own rhythm ...This is to spread our creativity of our musicianship and showmanship...In this song...we really depend on each other as we need to communicate and interact with each other by playing our instrument...I played the drumset...So everyone is depending on me as I am the one that give the tempo...I realised that my tempo have been improved...My tempo was constant...There is no problem for me to coordinate my both hands and to play latin-samba drumbeat as it is easy...I can apply my basic drumming skill to it...However...I still practising and improving on my jass swing technique...
Percussion Instruments such as bongo, conga, cowbell and agogo bell is very important as it makes the rhythm more lively with some samba and latin element...Usually when playing samba percussion...The agogo bell will be played first to give the queue to the drummer to start beating the drumbeat...So...I must be very alert to start playing the drum...When filling the drumbeat..I must not give a complicating drumbeat as it will affect everyone rhythm..the best thing to do is to play and give basic drumbeat...Beside me giving the main tempo of the song...the cowbell also assist me for constant tempo...So..the cowbell is the second important instrument in percussion ensemble...
